MAY OPENING FOR PALMA’S LATEST BOUTIQUE HOTEL

January 2014, Palma de Mallorca.  A complete refurbishment and restoration of an iconic 19th century Baroque mansion on Palma’s main Paseo del Borne Boulevard will open on May 1st as the Boutique Hotel Can Alomar.  It represents the third luxury hotel to be opened in Palma in less than three years by successful husband and wife team; Miguel Conde Moragues and architect Cristina Marti Crespi, who opened Can Cera Hotel (a 17th century palace) in June 2012 and Boutique Hotel Calatrava in April last year located beside the city’s ancient seawalls.

The Can Alomar building is of important historical interest as it is on the original site of a 15th century Gothic palace which was owned by the wealthy merchant Thomás family.  During their ownership the building was called the “Can Thomás des Predis des Born”.  In the 19th century the building was completely rebuilt in the Baroque style and still retains certain Renaissance details and features a facade from that time which is widely regarded as one of the most magnificent in the city.

When finished, Can Alomar will feature 16 spacious rooms including 3 Can Alomar Suites; 7 junior suites and 6 deluxe rooms – with views over either the Paseo del Borne, Calle Sant Feliu or a beautiful interior gardening courtyard. All rooms will be equipped with king size beds, spacious walk-in wardrobes and large modern bathrooms. There will also be connecting rooms and a room suitable for disabled guests.

Other features will include a rooftop solarium terrace with a plunge pool, heated Jacuzzi, relaxation area, interior and exterior massage booths and the “Mirador Can Alomar Tower” where guests can unwind and admire the stunning views across Palma Cathedral or enjoy a private yoga class.

The main public area of the hotel is located on the first floor (originally the “planta noble”) with two large terraces extending out towards the Paseo del Born Boulevard over the designer boutiques below.  This floor, with its high ceilings and elegant full length windows, will feature the restaurant and exterior dining terrace area.  Plus the cocktail bar area, which will be in the style of a “gentleman’s club”, leading onto the library, lounge area and the exterior lounge on the second terrace, overlooking the city.

Guests will also have access to the spa areas in sister hotels; Can Cera Hotel and Boutique Hotel Calatrava, a short minutes walk away.

The hotel’s prime location, right on Palma’s main boulevard, and above some of the top  designer boutiques; Louis Vuitton, Uterqüe and Relojería Alemana, is ideal to enjoy the best of Palma with its year round social and cultural calendar, cafes, restaurants, museums, shopping, yachting scene and with a long stretch of beach a few minutes’ walk away.
